DESCRIPTION :

Real reactors do not satisfy the idealized flow patterns, backmix flow or plug flow deviation from ideality can be due tochanneling of fluid through the vessel, recycling of fluidwithin the vessel or due to the presence of stagnant region orpockets of fluid in the vessel. To predict the exact behaviorof a vessel as a Chemicals reactor, RTD or stimulusresponse technique is used.The set up consists of one overhead feed tank through whichwater is fed to the reactor. Rotameter is provided to measure flow of water. The flow rate can be adjustedby operating the needle valve provided on rotameter. A straight tube type reactor kept horizontally andinclined upward at outlet from where samples are collected for analysis. For understanding the R.T.D.characteristics, a special arrangement to inject tracer into the lower end of reactor, using a syringe isprovided.
